Fulham Senior

In the Pre-Prep we broadly follow the National Curriculum (EYFS), laying particular emphasis on the early acquisition of the traditional basic skills of reading, writing and numeracy. From Reception, there are specialist teachers for music, dance and French. From Year 1, specialist teaching is introduced for ICT, art and sport; all other subjects are taught by the form teachers. Humanities are taught through a series of specific topics throughout the year.

Languages

French is taught from entry and is mostly orally based during the Pre-Prep years.

The Arts

The development of creative skills and awareness in art, music and drama play an important role. All children have two music lessons a week incorporating singing, movement and percussion. Children take part in at least one musical and/or drama production a year as well as class assemblies to which parents are invited.

Physical Education

There is some sort of physical activity on most days of the week. Ball skills, swimming, gymnastics and games are all taught weekly. In addition, Reception children have a weekly dance class and Years 1 and 2 have tennis coaching in the summer.

Homework

Homework is set right from the start in order to develop good, independent work habits. In Reception, this is normally a small amount of reading each day, weekly spelling lists and the occasional work sheet. From Year 1 the children read daily and the amount of written homework is gradually increased.

Home & School

Progress is monitored on a continuous basis and parents receive full written reports at the end of the Autumn and Summer Terms as well as an opportunity to meet their child's Class Teacher for an in-depth discussion. Involvement of parents with their child's progress is considered a valuable asset, so regular informal parent-teacher contact is also welcomed.

Out & About

Full advantage is taken of London's vibrant and stimulating museums, theatres, galleries and places of historical interest, which are easily accessible from our central location.

In the Spring and Summer Terms, Reception visits are made to Bekonscot Model Village and Bocketts Farm to support classroom projects.

Year 1 and 2 children have a minimum of one educational outing per term. Example destinations are:
Museums, Imax Cinema, Tower of London, Chelsea Physic Garden, Kew Bridge Steam Museum, Windsor Castle, Pantomimes

Year 2 children attend a day's team-building activity. In addition there are regular visits from theatre groups, musicians and speakers.
